Wow, a lot has happened since I've written here! Life sure does come at you fast. Between school work, kids, writing, and reading, I find it hard to juggle it all at times. Writing takes up most of my free time, and I'm happy to say all that work is finally coming to a head this year. I started the daunting process of querying agents for my completed project Lessons in Biology. I am so proud of this collection. I feel that it really shows my growth and how far my writing has come since two years ago when I completed my first poetry collection, Kaleidoscope. I thought I was proud of that one. . . but now looking back I can see how novice it was. I am still proud to have it as a stepping stone. I think I'm just a perfectionist. The first book I release, I want it to be perfect. I want it to fully represent who I am now and not who I have been. The feedback on Lessons in Biology has been exceptional so far. I can only hope an agent or editor feels the same way and gives me a chance!
Beside that, I've just been submitting, submitting, submitting, trying to get my poetry out to more journals and publications and creating a name for myself. It's actually terrifying, probably the scariest part of being a writer. You mean people have to see what I write? Who would've thought.
All the while, I'm watching my children grow at lightning speed, dealing with their own core memories that are shaping their identities, and perhaps someday, they too will write to understand themselves. We made the move from Oklahoma to New York several months ago, and I think we are all still in an adjustment period. It completely upended our lives. There's still boxes in the basement that are waiting to be unpacked, but if we haven't needed them by now, do we really need them?
Anyway, I wanted to check in. Make sure this website is still up and running for any potential readers or agents that may come knocking.
I am here. I am alive. I am a writer. Send coffee.
